Parents Issued Urgent Warning To Not Post Photo Of Children With Emoji Faces Anymore

Parents are being warned to stop using emojis to hide children’s faces in photos online. Experts say this common trend offers “virtually no real privacy protection.”

Cybersecurity specialist Lisa Ventura explained: “This approach is more security theatre than actual security.” Even with faces covered, photos reveal details like clothing, school logos, backgrounds, and locations. Advanced tools can even remove emojis and reconstruct faces, creating serious risks.

Criminals could use these images for fraud, identity theft, or even abusive content. Innocent pictures may also be manipulated for cyberbullying, following children for years. The FBI and child safety experts stress that once photos are uploaded, families lose control over how they’re used.

Safer alternatives include sharing only with trusted family through private apps, showing children from behind, or using natural covers like hats. As Ventura warns: “If you wouldn’t hand that photo to a stranger on the street, don’t post it online.”

Protecting children’s privacy today safeguards their future tomorrow. Do you think parents should stop posting altogether?
