Adrien Brody is under fire for his controversial actions at the Oscars after winning Best Actor for The Brutalist. Instead of celebrating his victory, social media erupted over his behavior before taking the stage.
While walking up to accept his award, Brody turned and threw his gum toward his girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, who caught it. Viewers were disgusted, with one saying, “If you can’t respect the rules and boundaries of the event, you should be banned.” Another called it “appalling,” while others labeled it “gross” and “foul.”
During his speech, Brody reflected on his career: “Winning an award like this signifies a destination… but to me, it is a chance to begin again.” He also thanked Chapman and her children, calling them “a rollercoaster” and revealing they call him “Popsie.”
Critics also slammed his speech as “entitled” and “one of the worst ever.” As wrap-up music played, Brody insisted it stop, saying, “It wasn’t my first rodeo.” He ended with a plea: “Let’s fight for what’s right.”
