Price per pack of cigarettes: tax, margin and increase

In France, cigarette prices are heavily taxed. About 75–80% of the price of a pack goes to taxes.

Since January 2026, most packs cost around €12.50–€13. The government hopes higher prices will reduce smoking, which causes about 75,000 deaths each year.

However, cheaper cigarettes in neighboring countries have led to more cross-border buying and smuggling.
