Prince Frederik Dies at 22
Prince Frederik, youngest son of Prince Robert of Luxembourg and Princess Julie of Nassau, has died at 22. His passing was announced by his father on the POLG Foundation website, a charity Frederik founded to raise awareness of the rare disease he battled.
A Life of Advocacy
Diagnosed at 14 with a rare genetic disorder, POLG disease, Frederik dedicated his life to fighting for treatments and raising awareness. The foundation describes the illness as one that “robs the body’s cells of energy, in turn causing progressive multiple organ dysfunction and failure.”

A Touching Farewell
Prince Robert shared, “It is with a very heavy heart that my wife and I would like to inform you of the passing of our son.” On February 28, Frederik said goodbye to his loved ones one by one. His final words to his father: “Papa, are you proud of me?”
Tributes and Legacy
Loved ones and supporters shared messages online: “Such a special young man.” Another wrote, “You may have passed, but the love & care you left behind, you will never be forgotten.” His family vows to continue his work through the POLG Foundation.
