Reba McEntire’s loving words about her stepson, Brandon Blackstock, have resurfaced following his death at 48 after a three-year battle with cancer. Brandon, the ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, passed away on August 7, 2025, leaving behind two children, River and Remington.
In a 2021 interview after Brandon and Kelly’s separation, Reba said, “I love them both… I can’t play favorites.” She described Brandon as her son, despite being her stepson, and said she was “praying for them both.” Kelly, who remained close to Reba after the divorce, has often credited her as a major influence and friend.
A source shared that Kelly stayed “protective” of Brandon during his illness for their children’s sake, never speaking poorly about him to them. “She’s been devastated for the kids,” the insider said.
