Beloved actor and director Robert Redford has died at 89. The Oscar winner passed away in his sleep Tuesday at his Utah home, near Provo.
Redford was one of Hollywood’s most celebrated stars, known for classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men. He later became an award-winning director, earning an Oscar for Ordinary People in 1980.

In 1981, he founded the Sundance Institute and later transformed a small festival into the world-famous Sundance Film Festival. “We need stories that inspire people to act and care,” Redford said in his final interview.
Redford received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016 and was a lifelong advocate for the environment. He is survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, and three children.
