A peaceful school Mass in Minneapolis turned into tragedy when a gunman opened fire inside Annunciation Catholic Church. Two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed. Seventeen others were wounded, including 14 children.
Police identified the shooter as Robin Westman, a local in their early 20s, who later died at the scene. Authorities discovered disturbing online posts, videos, and a handwritten manifesto filled with regret, depression, and anger. “I am not well. I am a sad person haunted by these thoughts,” Westman wrote.
Children inside the church described terrifying moments. Fifth-grader Weston Halse said, “My friend Victor saved me by laying on top of me, but he got hit.” Parents rushed to the scene in panic, some finding their children hiding in fear.
President Donald Trump called for prayers and ordered flags flown at half-staff to honor the victims. This heartbreaking attack has once again raised painful questions about violence, safety, and how families can ever heal. What steps should society take next?
