Shocking moment nuclear chemist ‘ate uranium’ to prove it was harmless

In a shocking 1985 video, nuclear chemist Galen Winsor claimed to eat uranium oxide during a lecture to prove it wasn’t dangerous. Winsor, who worked in the nuclear industry since the 1950s, believed radiation risks were exaggerated.

Winsor had processed plutonium at the Hanford site in Washington and later toured the U.S. with the conservative John Birch Society. He often criticized government regulations on nuclear safety and made videos to share his views.

In the viral clip, Winsor holds up a bottle of uranium oxide, then places some on his tongue. He joked, “What I’ve just done makes me high-level nuclear waste.” He added, “I do this in front of audiences, and they go wild.”

Winsor passed away in 2008 at age 82. His cause of death was never revealed, but fans still debate his message. One YouTube comment said, “He lived until 82, which shows how it really is not dangerous in small portions.”

Important: Experts strongly warn against touching or consuming any radioactive materials under any circumstances.
