TV Host Learns He Has Skin Cancer Live on Air
Fox’s Good Day Philadelphia host Mike Jerrick was shocked when a live segment turned into a real-time diagnosis. Dermatologist Dr. Joanna Walker noticed a suspicious spot on Jerrick’s elbow and announced on-air, “This is a basal cell skin cancer.”
Jerrick, visibly stunned, responded: “What! And then stitch me up?” Walker explained it’s a slow-growing and highly treatable form of skin cancer. “It’s not going to spread but needs to be removed,” she added.
The surprise moment wasn’t entirely unplanned—Jerrick had joked about having Dr. Walker check his arms, but never expected a real diagnosis. “I should’ve done this a long time ago,” he admitted. He’s now scheduled to have the spot removed on Friday.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common skin cancer in the U.S., often caused by sun exposure. It appears as a bump or patch, especially on areas like the head and neck. Early detection has a 99% survival rate.
Experts urge regular skin checks and sun protection to reduce risk.
