‘Sleeping Prince’ dies after spending 20 years in coma following devastating car crash

Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud has passed away at 36, nearly two decades after a tragic car crash in London left him in a coma. The accident in 2005 caused severe brain trauma, and despite immediate treatment, the young royal never regained full consciousness.

Nicknamed the “Sleeping Prince”, Al-Waleed spent 20 years on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia. In rare moments, he showed signs of awareness—once lifting a finger and slightly moving his head in 2019—but he remained in a coma until his death.

His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, shared the heartbreaking news: “With deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son… may Allah have mercy on him.”

Tributes flooded social media. The Global Imams Council offered “sincere condolences” to the royal family, honoring his long and silent fight. One mourner wrote, “Your time on earth was a blessing to your family and the world.”

Funeral prayers will be held at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. The loss of the Sleeping Prince has touched hearts across the world.
