Early fame and hidden pressure
First, the Manchester singer chased pop fame from childhood. As a teenager, he scored UK hits and gained fans in Asia. However, he felt alone in the spotlight and battled body worries.
America, addiction, and homelessness
Next, he moved to America after his label dropped him. A short acting role came, but debt grew fast. He drank heavily, used drugs like crystal meth, and faced sex work.
Recovery, sexuality, and life now
Also, he returned home in 2006, broke and ashamed. Alcohol worsened after his father died and his sister died in 2019. He hid being gay for years, and later used AA, meaning support meetings for alcohol addiction.
Finally, a lawyer email about an old case payout helped him seek private rehab, meaning a live-in recovery clinic. Kavana says he has been sober for three and a half years and wrote “Pop Scars.”
