The Surinam toad has one of the most unusual reproduction methods in the animal world.
During mating, the female releases eggs while the male fertilizes them and presses them into the skin on her back. The skin then grows around each egg, creating small pockets where the embryos develop.
Inside these pockets, the young frogs complete their entire development. Instead of becoming tadpoles in water, they grow directly into tiny toads.
When they are fully formed, the baby toads emerge from the mother’s back and swim away on their own.
