Trans actress Hunter Schafer shared a “harsh reality check” after receiving a new passport listing her as “male” due to President Donald Trump’s executive order recognizing only birth-assigned genders. “I thought I’ll believe it when I see it, and today I saw it on my new passport,” she said.
After her passport was stolen in Barcelona, Schafer applied for a replacement, selecting “female” as she had for years. However, the issued document listed “male.” She speculated that agencies now cross-reference birth records, adding, “I don’t know exactly what changed, but this has never happened since I changed my gender marker.”

Schafer clarified she wasn’t seeking sympathy but wanted to raise awareness: “I’m not here to fearmonger or receive consolation.” She warned against normalizing these policies, stating, “This is real, and it’s happening. No one is excluded.”
Despite her frustration, she remains defiant: “Trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. A letter on a passport can’t change that. F*** this administration.”
