Siobhan McCann, a photojournalist, documented her gender transition by taking a selfie almost every day for nearly three years. She later combined the images into time-lapse videos that clearly show her physical changes over time.

The photos capture visible changes such as the removal of facial hair, longer hair growth, and facial softening caused by hormone therapy. The camera angle, lighting, and expression stay the same, allowing viewers to see the changes clearly and without filters. The goal, she said, was honesty and accuracy.
McCann explained that for many years she felt disconnected from her appearance. While working as a news photographer, she began to realize she was uncomfortable living as a man. After learning more about transgender experiences, she understood that transitioning was the right path for her.
She began hormone therapy at age 22 and started the daily photos shortly after. The routine helped her track progress and stay grounded during moments of doubt. Over time, the images showed not just physical change, but growing comfort and confidence.

Today, McCann says she feels more social and at ease in her life. She has continued her journalism career and says the project helped others better understand gender transition. She hopes her work shows that transition is not about becoming someone new, but about living more authentically.
