Unhinged Canadian professor suspended for suggesting Charlie Kirk deserved to suffer a more painful death

The University of Toronto placed professor Ruth Marshall on leave after a vulgar post about the shooting. The school said the matter is under investigation and gave no further comment.

In New Jersey, a surgeon resigned after a nurse reported his remark that Kirk “had it coming.” The hospital said, “We have accepted the physician’s resignation,” and confirmed the nurse keeps her pay and shifts. A Secret Service agent was also put on leave for calling the death “karma.” “The US Secret Service will not tolerate behavior that violates our code of conduct,” the agency said.

Other fallout grew fast: a Tennessee professor faces termination, a pastor’s sermon drew fire, a newspaper apologized for a cartoon, and a charity dismissed a board member over posts. Emotions remain high as institutions stress civility and public trust.

Free speech matters—but so do standards. Did employers act fairly here, or are we watching a new wave of cancel culture?
