Jason Corbett, an Irish widower with two children, married Molly Martens in North Carolina after hiring her as an au pair. But in 2015, Jason was found beaten to death. Molly and her father, retired FBI agent Tom Martens, claimed self-defense, saying Jason was abusive and attacked Molly.
Tom admitted to hitting Jason with a baseball bat. Molly also used a brick. However, autopsy reports revealed Jason suffered numerous head injuries. Molly and Tom were convicted of second-degree murder in 2017 but were released in 2021 after the convictions were overturned.
In 2023, Molly pleaded no contest and Tom pleaded guilty to manslaughter. They were sentenced to 51–74 months but served only seven more months due to prior time served. Jason’s children, Jack and Sarah, later said Molly coached them to lie about abuse.
Now back in Ireland, Jack and Sarah honor their father’s memory, rejecting abuse claims. Molly, banned from contacting them, maintains her innocence. Sarah released a memoir seeking justice and healing. “He didn’t choose to leave us,” she said. “He was taken from us.”
