During Pope Francis’ funeral on April 26 in Vatican City, US President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met privately to discuss a possible political agreement. Trump later posted on Truth Social that “most of the major points are agreed to,” although he didn’t share specifics.

Zelenskyy described the meeting as “good” and “very symbolic,” writing on Twitter: “Hoping for results on everything we covered. Protecting lives of our people. Full and unconditional ceasefire. Reliable and lasting peace that will prevent another war from breaking out.”

Despite their positive tone, tensions remain, as Trump reaffirmed his stance that “Crimea will stay with Russia” during a Time interview.

At the funeral, Trump and Zelenskyy also met with French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Observers noticed that Zelenskyy was warmly applauded upon arrival, while Trump, criticized for wearing a blue suit instead of black, received a cooler reception.
