An Illinois woman found her husband’s mummified body in their home eight months after reporting him missing.
Richard Maedge, 53, disappeared in April 2022. Police searched the cluttered house twice and noted a strong odor but did not find him.
In December, his wife Jennifer discovered his body in a concealed bedroom closet while looking for Christmas decorations. Authorities ruled his death a suicide.
The coroner said mummification likely reduced odors, which may explain why he went unnoticed for months. Police found no evidence of foul play.
