A 108-year-old woman says her long life is due to having dogs instead of children. Ada Daniel celebrated her big day at a care home in Derbyshire.
Secret to Success
Ada Daniel lives at the Codnor Park Care Home. She recently turned 108 years old on June 1, 2023. Ada believes her long life comes from a specific choice. She chose to have many dogs rather than raising kids. “I did ask her what her secret was once and she said it was to have dogs, not kids,” said activity coordinator Kelly Goucher.

Love for Greyhounds
Ada once lived on Street Lane in the town of Ripley. She owned many greyhounds during her younger years. Interestingly, she named all of her dogs Street Lane. Ada remained very active for most of her life. She enjoyed a daily walk into town until she was 97. Then, she finally entered a care home at age 103.
A Royal Celebration
The care home launched a Facebook appeal for Ada’s birthday. They hoped to receive 108 cards for her special day. However, well-wishers sent more than 300 cards to the home. She even received a message from King Charles and Queen Camilla. “This brings our warmest congratulations and heartfelt good wishes on such a special occasion,” the royal note said.

Life in Derbyshire
Ada was born in Ambergate back in 1915. She married her late husband Percy in 1944. Percy fought in the war and passed away at age 73. Now, Ada is the 65th oldest person in the UK.
