Woman choosing to end her own life after cancer diagnosis reveals how she will spend her final hours

At 72, Roseana Spangler-Sims made a brave choice. After battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, she decided to end her life under California’s Medical Aid in Dying law.

In her final days, Roseana gave away possessions, moved near Palomar Mountain, and spent time with family. She even hosted a “living wake,” where loved ones celebrated her life while she was still present. “I’m ready to go. I’m more at peace than I’ve ever been,” she said.

On her last morning, she planned a light breakfast, a ritual with sage, and a microdose of mushrooms to bring calm. Surrounded by family, she wanted to sip the final medication while overlooking pine trees and hummingbirds. “I can’t wait to make my body just melt away… It will be a relief,” she explained.

Her story is not only about dying, but about living with intention until the very last moment.

Would you find comfort in choosing how to spend your final day?
