A 37-year-old Brazilian influencer has spoken publicly about identifying as “digisexual,” saying it took her years to understand her feelings.
Digisexual is a term used to describe people who feel romantic or emotional attraction toward technology, including artificial intelligence. The concept was introduced by researchers in 2017 to reflect changing relationships between humans and digital tools.
The woman, Suellen Carey, said she developed a romantic attachment to an AI chatbot after using it regularly. What began as curiosity gradually became daily conversations. She described the experience as emotionally supportive and said she felt fully accepted during their exchanges.
Carey explained that the chatbot felt attentive, consistent and nonjudgmental. As a transgender woman, she said she appreciated feeling seen and respected without question. Over time, however, she realized the connection lacked genuine human emotion and unpredictability. The relationship ended after several months.
Despite that, she said the experience helped her better understand herself. She believes many people already form emotional bonds with technology but are hesitant to speak about it openly.
Her story highlights how personal identity and attraction can evolve. For some, self-discovery takes time and may follow unexpected paths. Carey says her feelings were real and part of her journey toward understanding who she is and what she needs in a relationship.
