A man in India is recovering in hospital after his wife allegedly poured boiling oil on him as he slept. Dinesh Kumar, 28, said he woke up in agony to find his wife, Sadhna, standing over him holding a tub of hot oil.
“She told me, ‘If you shout, I’ll pour more,’” he told The Times of India. Moments later, she reportedly sprinkled red chilli powder on his fresh burns. Neighbours heard his screams around 3:15 a.m. and tried to help, but Sadhna refused to open the door. The landlord eventually called Dinesh’s brother-in-law, who rushed him to hospital.
Dinesh, a pharmaceutical worker, suffered severe burns to his face and torso. He was later transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi for specialist care. Police described his injuries as “dangerous.”
Neighbours said the couple had moved in only seven months earlier. As one witness shared, “He kept saying his wife burned him. It was terrifying.” The investigation is ongoing.
