She dreamed of a calm birth — but what happened left everyone in the room speechless.
Shelby Martin, a 30-year-old mom from Tennessee, gave birth to her son Cassian, who weighed a jaw-dropping 13 pounds. “As soon as they pulled him out, everyone gasped,” Shelby recalled. “They were absolutely shocked at his size.”
Doctors decided on a C-section to protect both mother and baby. “There was a real risk he could get stuck,” she explained. Despite the challenges, Shelby said her care team was “amazing” and helped her stay calm through it all. Cassian spent ten days in intensive care before heading home — healthy and strong.
The birth held even deeper meaning for Shelby and her husband, Joshua. Just a year earlier, they’d suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. “He’s our brightest rainbow,” she said softly. “We still mourn our angel, but Cassian has filled our hearts again.”
