Jack became a household name in the 1990s through his role as Detective Charles Wycliffe in the hit ITV crime drama. Viewers loved the calm, thoughtful way he solved cases across the beautiful landscapes of Cornwall. Alongside co-stars Jimmy Yuill and Helen Masters, he helped make the series a treasured favorite.
The turning point in his life came long before television. Born in Leeds, Jack earned a scholarship to study fine art before discovering his passion for acting. His early work at London’s Royal Court Theatre led to powerful TV roles, including his award-nominated performance as MP Bill Brand in the 1970s.
