The U.S. mourns the tragic loss of 67 lives in Wednesday’s D.C. plane crash, including young figure skaters Everly, 14, and Alydia Livingston, 11, and their parents, Donna and Peter.
Passion for Skating Everly and Alydia, members of the Washington Figure Skating Club, trained at Ashburn Ice House. Known as the “Ice Skating Sisters,” they were beloved in the community. Days before the crash, their father took a photo of them in Kansas. Their final Instagram post showed them at a championship event, captioned, “We were born ready for this… But is @usfigureskating ready for this much Livingston at Nationals?”
Community in Mourning Tributes poured in. “The figure skating community is a close-knit, worldwide family, and our hearts are broken,” said Ashburn Ice House management. Designer Cassandra Atkins said, “Donna was the perfect mom. The girls were her world.”
The Tragic Crash The American Airlines flight collided with a military Black Hawk helicopter, crashing into the Potomac River. The deadliest U.S. air disaster in 24 years claimed the lives of several skaters and coaches, leaving a lasting impact.
