For a moment, fans believed Hollywood had a surprising new power couple: Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
An apparent engagement notice for the pair appeared in the Boston Globe, complete with a photograph of them together and Zendaya sporting a sparkling ring. Social media quickly lit up with congratulations, confusion, and a fair amount of alarm from devoted followers of their real-life partners.
However, there is a twist. The “engagement” belongs to their characters in the upcoming A24 film The Drama, not to the actors themselves. In the movie, Zendaya and Pattinson play Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson, a couple preparing for their wedding while unsettling secrets surface.

Many online observers wondered whether the newspaper announcement was a clever piece of marketing. Others immediately thought of Zendaya’s fiancé, Tom Holland, with some users jokingly asking if someone should “check on” him.
Despite the brief panic, excitement for the film remains high. The Drama, along with The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three, will bring the two stars together on screen next year, with The Drama due out on April 3, 2026.
In real life, Zendaya became engaged to Tom Holland after he proposed around last Christmas. She revealed her ring at the 2025 Golden Globes, and Holland’s father later shared that Tom had carefully planned the proposal, right down to his words and wardrobe.
Robert Pattinson, meanwhile, is engaged to actor and musician Suki Waterhouse. The couple welcomed their first child in March 2024.
