George Stephanopoulos, ABC News chief anchor, and actress-comedian Ali Wentworth met through a blind date arranged by a mutual friend. Wentworth, living in L.A., initially refused because she wanted to avoid anyone from her political past. However, they eventually met for lunch in New York. Wentworth recalled, “We both ordered crab salad and asked each other what antidepressants we were on.” Their connection was immediate, leading Stephanopoulos to propose just two weeks later.
Married since 2001, Stephanopoulos and Wentworth share a strong bond. On “Good Morning America,” Wentworth humorously attributed their marital success to always being right, while Stephanopoulos is “always wrong.” She added, “I think humor. I think we are hot for each other. I think that helps.” Wentworth also mentioned her “boyfriend,” referring to their dog, joking, “It’s unconditional love that George calls my boyfriend.”
The couple has two daughters, Elliot Anastasia and Harper Andrea. Wentworth described them, saying, “The older one who looks like George, she’s more serious…The younger one, unfortunately, is turning into me.” They often share family moments on social media, showcasing their daughters’ special occasions.
Despite their busy schedules, Wentworth and Stephanopoulos maintain daily rituals to stay connected, such as going to bed at the same time. Wentworth shared, “If I did not get to bed with my husband or wake up with him, then he was just my roommate.” Stephanopoulos has a morning ritual of kissing Wentworth and their daughters before leaving for work, despite the challenge of finding them in the dark.
