A Shocking Call
While baking with her daughter, Nola Swart received devastating news: her husband Fred had died during a fishing trip. Fred’s best friend James sobbed over the phone, “I’m sorry, Nola… He was next to me and then he just… He was gone, gone…”
Preparing for Goodbye
In shock, Nola traveled to identify Fred’s body. The coroner declared it a heart attack, and she refused an autopsy, insisting, “No one is going to cut up my Fred. Let him rest in peace!” A funeral was arranged, with Fred’s final wish for cremation.
A Stunning Moment
At the service, Nola leaned in for a final kiss. To her disbelief, Fred blinked. “He’s alive! Oh my God! Call 911!” she screamed. The funeral director saw Fred move and rushed to get help.
A Second Chance
Fred had suffered a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting that mimicked death. Thankfully, Nola’s choices spared him from embalming. He recovered fully, and Nola called it “a miracle… a second chance given to our family by a compassionate God.”
