My name is Patty, and at 90 years old, I’ve had a blessed and joyful life. My husband passed away a few years back, leaving just me and my daughter, Angie. I was excited about my 90th birthday, as Angie promised to visit with my grandchildren.
As my birthday arrived, I eagerly awaited their visit. However, by lunchtime, I hadn’t heard from Angie. “I tried to call Angie again, but it went straight to voicemail.” Realizing I might spend the day alone, I felt a deep sadness.
Then, the doorbell rang. Expecting Angie, I was surprised to see her ex-husband, John, with flowers and gifts. “Happy Birthday, Ma!!” he greeted me warmly. John, whom I always considered like a son, joined me for dinner, brightening my day.
During dinner, John called Angie and learned she was on vacation with her new boyfriend and the kids. “Vacation? And she didn’t tell anyone? She just up and left?” I was heartbroken by her lack of communication. Later, Angie promised to visit soon, but the damage was done. John’s presence softened the blow, but my trust in Angie was shaken. What should I do?
