A 16-year-old sought advice on Reddit after exposing their father’s infidelity during a family dinner. The teenager had a distant relationship with their father, who was often away for work and critical of their school performance. “Siblings and I were basically raised only by my Mom, and I’m really close with her,” the teen shared.
The teen first noticed something was wrong when they smelled perfume on their father. Later, they saw a text on his phone saying, “Last night was amazing. Can’t wait to see you again.” The teen immediately informed their mother, who became emotional but told the teen not to worry.
At a family dinner, the teen’s father publicly criticized them. Feeling humiliated, the teen snapped and revealed, “Hard to respect you when you openly cheat on Mom and don’t even try to hide it.” This led to a heated argument between the parents, causing the mother to leave with her children.
Family members blamed the teen for the parents’ separation, making them feel guilty. The mother, however, did not blame the teen, understanding their frustration. A Reddit user commented, “NTA. It’s a bit awkward to do it over dinner, but if I were a teenager and my dad was insulting my entire person like that, I think I would snap thirty seconds before you did.”
