Back-to-Back Tragedies
On May 1, Cincinnati police fatally shot 18-year-old Ryan Hinton as he fled from a stolen car while allegedly holding a gun. Bodycam footage shows an officer yelling, “He’s got a gun!” before firing. Police later recovered a handgun that had not been fired.

The Following Day
Just 24 hours later, Ryan’s father, 38-year-old Rodney Hinton Jr., allegedly struck and killed a sheriff’s deputy with his car. Prosecutors claim it was a “calculated and premeditated” act. Hinton is being held without bond and faces an aggravated murder charge.

Victim and Community Mourning
The deputy, a recently retired officer serving part-time, was directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati. “The officer was just out doing his job,” said Police Chief Teresa Theetge. Governor Mike DeWine condemned the act as “sickening.”

Family’s Response
The Hinton family attorney said they were “surprised” by Ryan’s fatal police encounter. Hinton Jr. was reportedly “very distraught” after viewing the footage. The investigation into both deaths continues.
