Georgia O’Connor, a 25-year-old undefeated professional boxer from Durham, has passed away less than four months after being diagnosed with cancer. A decorated former Team GB athlete, she had won gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games and remained undefeated in her three pro fights.
Just 13 days before her death on May 22, Georgia married her partner. In January, she shared her diagnosis publicly, revealing that she had begged doctors for months to take her symptoms seriously. “There’s really no easy way to say this, but I have cancer,” she wrote.
Georgia blamed the NHS for repeatedly dismissing her pain. “Not one doctor took me seriously… They gaslit me, told me it was nothing… One even told me it’s ‘all in my head.’” She later revealed the cancer had spread and that blood clots had formed in her lungs.
Georgia’s powerful message has sparked outrage. Her family has been invited to raise concerns with the hospital. Meanwhile, tributes pour in for the fierce fighter who never stopped smiling.
