A British man, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, is the only known survivor of the Air India crash that killed 241 people on June 12. The flight had just taken off from Ahmedabad, bound for London Gatwick, when it fell back to the ground minutes later. On board were 242 passengers and crew, mostly Indian and British nationals.
Ramesh, who sat in seat 11A, shared his horror from a hospital bed in Ahmedabad. “Thirty seconds after takeoff there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I stood up and ran,” he said. Doctors confirmed he has multiple injuries but is stable.
Family members in Leicester say Ramesh still can’t believe he survived. Investigators are working to find out what caused the disaster, while police continue counting casualties, including victims on the ground.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the wreckage and called the tragedy “heartbreaking beyond words.” As the world watches, India mourns and prays for answers — and for Ramesh’s recovery.
