A joyful family trip ended in heartbreak when Akeel Nanabawa, Hannaa Vorajee, and their four-year-old daughter Sara died in the Air India Flight AI171 crash on June 12. The Gloucester-based family was flying home to the UK when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 241 people.
Friends and community leaders described the trio as deeply loved and admired. Hannaa, a nonprofit director, was praised for her compassion, and Akeel for his quiet generosity. Imam Abdullah Samad called Sara a “ray of sunshine,” and said the family’s loss has left a deep void.
Social media has been flooded with emotional tributes, remembering the family’s kindness and vibrant spirit. Many recalled Akeel’s smile and the couple’s positive impact on their community.
The tragedy has also reignited anger over Air India’s compensation plan. The airline offered around ₹96 lakh ($116,000) per victim, sparking backlash online. Critics argue the amount can’t match the value of a human life and demand greater accountability. As families grieve, the nation mourns one of its most devastating aviation disasters in recent memory.
