In a devastating accident, Liverpool and Portugal football star Diogo Jota, 28, died alongside his younger brother, Andre Silva, in a car crash early Thursday in Zamora, Spain. The brothers were driving a Lamborghini when a tire burst caused the vehicle to veer off-road and burst into flames. Both died instantly.

Jota had just married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, on June 22. The couple shared their joy online with photos and videos from their wedding, calling it “a day we will never forget.” They leave behind three children.

The soccer world is in mourning. Cristiano Ronaldo wrote, “It doesn’t make sense… we were just together,” and sent heartfelt condolences to Jota’s family. Liverpool called the loss “devastating,” while Wolves and FC Porto also honored him.

Jota played 182 matches for Liverpool, scoring 65 goals. He was a beloved figure on and off the pitch. Portugal’s Football Federation said, “We have lost two champions.” UEFA confirmed a minute of silence will honor the brothers. The tragedy has left fans and teammates around the world in shock.
