New Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wasted no time confronting President Donald Trump in his first national address. Carney, who replaced Justin Trudeau last month, warned, “As I’ve been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country — never.”
Trump had previously taunted Canada, suggesting it should become the 51st U.S. state, claiming America spends “$200 billion a year to subsidize it.” Carney fired back, declaring, “President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us — that will never, that will never ever happen.”

Carney emphasized Canada’s independence, stating that when he meets Trump, it will be “between two sovereign nations” and insisted Canada has “many other options” for economic partnerships beyond the U.S.
Rallying Canadians, Carney urged unity: “United we will win this trade war and build the strongest economy in the G7 — an economy that works for everyone.”
