When their grandmother Marlene fell ill, Brian and Linda rushed to visit her. Marlene handed them each $5,000, but Brian scoffed, saying, “Only this much?” while Linda stayed, using her savings to renovate Marlene’s home. “Are you happy now, Grandma?!” Linda asked after the repairs. Touched, Marlene passed away peacefully, feeling loved.
At the will reading, Brian inherited the family house, and Linda received a box of five old clocks. Brian mocked, “You can decorate your rented apartment with these rusty clocks and cry over it, sis.” Feeling heartbroken but accepting her fate, Linda returned to the city.
One day, Linda noticed an engraving, “OPEN IT!” inside a clock. Hidden within was a note from Marlene: “Never underestimate these rusty, old watches! Each piece is worth $40,000.” Altogether, Linda’s inheritance was nearly $200,000.
Linda decided to keep the discovery private. “Granny knew who deserved the best and I needn’t prove it to him,” she thought, cherishing the clocks—and her grandmother’s love—forever.
