The world mourns the loss of Shannen Doherty, renowned for her iconic roles and valiant fight against cancer. Dr. Lawrence D. Piro, her oncologist, opened up about her final moments in an emotional interview. Piro, a trusted friend and physician, played a crucial role in her cancer battle, overseeing her treatment at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute.
Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, achieved remission in 2017, but faced a recurrence in 2019, progressing to stage four by 2020. Despite her worsening condition, she remained hopeful. “In her mind, she was not wanting to consider any other alternative than ‘we were beating this and we were engaged in life,'” Piro said. She continued seeking treatment and maintained a positive outlook.
During her last days, Piro described Doherty as “comfortable and sleeping and transitioning,” surrounded by loved ones and her dog. “It was somber and sad, but beautiful and loving,” he recalled. Piro highlighted Doherty’s enduring spirit, noting, “Giving up was never an option for Doherty, highlighting her warrior spirit.”
Reflecting on their friendship, Piro remembered Doherty’s love for hosting dinner parties and her culinary skills. Despite her illness, she remained active on social media, often expressing gratitude for Piro’s support. “This man saved my life,” she wrote in one heartfelt post. Although known for past tensions with “Charmed” co-star Alyssa Milano, Doherty’s legacy is one of resilience and passion, inspiring all who knew her.
