Eight victims have been identified following a deadly boat capsizing on Lake Tahoe during a sudden summer storm on June 21. The victims included DoorDash executive Joshua Pickles, his parents, and five others from California and New York. Two survivors were rescued from the 27-foot boat, which overturned near D.L. Bliss State Park amid 8–10 foot waves.
Pickles’ wife, who stayed ashore with their infant daughter, expressed heartbreak: “We are devastated by this tragedy.” DoorDash’s CFO praised Joshua’s legacy, calling him “an inspiration.” Other victims were remembered as devoted, outdoors-loving individuals with strong community ties.
The boat was part of a birthday celebration, and weather conditions turned deadly quickly. Witnesses described extreme waves and sudden wind shifts. Veteran boat captain Joby Cefalu, who aided rescue efforts, called it “a very, very tragic day on Lake Tahoe.”
