Sophie Nyweide, known for her role as Michelle Williams’ daughter in Mammoth, has passed away at 24, her family confirmed in an emotional obituary. “Sophie was a kind and trusting girl… [her art] represents the pain she suffered,” they shared.
Despite a successful early career — with credits in Bella, Margot at the Wedding, Law & Order, and An Invisible Sign — Sophie faced deep personal struggles. Her family revealed she “self-medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame,” which ultimately led to her death. “She said she would ‘handle it’ on her own and rejected treatment.”

Born in 2000, Sophie grew up around cinema — even sleeping in a movie theater where her actress mother worked. Her passion for acting blossomed early. “I kept wondering… what would it be like to see myself on that screen?” she once said.
“She danced as she moved,” her family wrote. A gifted snowboarder and adventurer, Sophie found solace on film sets. Her mother, Shelly Gibson, wrote: “Fly high sweetheart — you always could.”
