Tom Hanks Sparks Controversy on SNL
Tom Hanks’ surprise appearance on SNL 50 ignited backlash over his portrayal of a Trump supporter. His return, meant to honor SNL’s legacy, instead fueled political tensions and social media outrage.
Political Reactions
Joy Behar of The View acknowledged Trump supporters’ frustration: “They’re making anyone who voted for Trump look like a racist, and that’s why they’re mad.” She added that many voters felt misled by unfulfilled promises. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin dismissed the outrage as exaggerated.
Criticism from Public Figures
Former SNL cast member Victoria Jackson told TMZ she was disappointed. Political commentator Link Lauren called the sketch “disgusting” and accused SNL of unfairly stereotyping MAGA supporters.
Social Media Backlash
Viewers slammed the skit online. One wrote: “SNL and Tom Hanks recycled their joke, mocking 77 million Americans as dumb, racist rednecks.” Others criticized the reuse of a handshake gag from Hanks’ 2016 Black Jeopardy sketch, calling it repetitive and outdated.
