Chaz Bono, the only child of Sonny & Cher, has forged his own identity beyond his famous parents. His journey of self-discovery has been public, from transitioning to achieving a remarkable weight loss transformation.
Born Chastity Bono in 1969, Chaz struggled with his gender identity from childhood. “As I got older… it felt like my body was literally betraying me,” he told Oprah in 2011. Initially coming out as a lesbian, he later realized he was transgender. His transition, completed in 2010, was documented in Becoming Chaz, earning critical acclaim. While Cher initially struggled, she later embraced his transition, saying, “Chaz is so happy now and we get along better than ever.”
In addition to his advocacy and acting career, Chaz made headlines for his weight loss. Once weighing 250 pounds, he slimmed down to 190, crediting lifestyle changes. “Diets don’t work. You just have to change what you eat,” he told People. His confidence grew, and he began enjoying his reflection in the mirror.
Now thriving in acting and personal life, Chaz continues to inspire with his resilience, self-acceptance, and commitment to health and happiness.
