A Perfect Lie
Nancy and Jeremy had a deal: split everything 50/50, including rent on their $2,000/month apartment. “We’ll split it, $1,000 each. Just like we planned,” Jeremy had said. For two years, Nancy paid her share—unaware she was handing money straight to her husband and his mother.
The Discovery
Everything unraveled in an elevator ride when a neighbor casually revealed, “You live in Lorrie and Jeremy’s apartment, right?” Nancy realized the lease was fake, the landlord a lie, and the real owners—Jeremy and his mother—had pocketed $24,000 of her money.
The Revenge
Nancy played it cool. “Should I make that butterscotch pie she loves?” she offered sweetly. Then, on rent day, she emptied their joint bank account, moved into her own place—paid for with Jeremy’s money—and left behind a letter: “Hope you enjoy YOUR apartment… Don’t bother calling. I blocked you.”
Justice Served
Jeremy begged. Lorrie aged. Nancy smiled. “If he doesn’t agree to my divorce terms… I’ll be filing fraud charges,” she warned. He paid in full. “Some call it cruel. I call it justice,” Nancy said.
