Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala outfit sparked concern for its seemingly “unhealthy” portrayal of fashion. The event, known for its extravagant themes, saw Kardashian in a custom Margiela by John Galliano dress, featuring a strapless silver corset. Social media erupted with worries over the corset, which cinched her waist to an extreme degree. People expressed discomfort, calling the outfit “concerning” and questioning its promotion of unhealthy body standards.
The Met Gala’s theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” was inspired by JG Ballard’s dystopian tale, “The Garden of Time,” where the wealthy isolate themselves in a garden while the less fortunate approach. This narrative mirrors concerns about the Met Gala’s extravagance contrasting with real-world issues.
Historically, tight-lacing corsets led to health problems, including deformed ribcages and digestive issues. Kardashian’s outfit drew comparisons to this era, raising fears about promoting such extreme waist sizes.
Ultimately, Kardashian’s dress highlights a broader debate about the impact of fashion on body image and health.
