Ann Fisher, devastated by her mother’s death, visits a retirement home to collect her belongings. There, she unexpectedly reunites with Mrs. Gove, the mother of her late fiancé, Simon. The two women, once close, rekindle their bond, bringing back memories of Ann’s lost love.
Moved by their shared history, Ann invites Mrs. Gove to live with her. Ann’s husband, Jack, is outraged and threatens to leave. Unfazed, Ann retorts, “Go ahead…I don’t need you, Jack.” Jack ultimately leaves, and Ann finds solace in her new companion.
Ann’s daughter, Mandy, is initially surprised by her mother’s decision but warms up to Mrs. Gove, appreciating her presence. Ann feels a renewed sense of contentment, surrounded by love and companionship.
After Mrs. Gove’s passing, Ann learns she has inherited over $1.7 million from her, who considered Ann “my daughter in truth.” When Jack attempts to reconcile, Ann firmly rejects him, choosing to move forward without him.
