Maren Morris recently spoke out about her decision to step away from country music. In a podcast, she cited the toxic environment in Nashville as a major factor. She mentioned feeling unable to tolerate certain behaviors and the need to laugh them off. Morris emphasized that while she loves Nashville and its songwriters, she couldn’t continue the “circus” anymore, especially after the challenges of 2020.
Regarding her departure from the genre, Morris clarified it wasn’t absolute but admitted she couldn’t fully engage with it anymore. She expressed openness to others joining her path. Reflecting on her response to Morgan Wallen’s racial slur incident, she admitted underestimating the backlash she faced but stood by her stance.
In an interview last month, Morris discussed advocating for change in the country music industry, acknowledging the challenges and criticisms she faced as a woman. Despite attempts to push for progress, she found herself distancing from the industry’s politics and drama, ultimately choosing to focus on her music and step away from what no longer brought her happiness.
