When my husband Oliver announced that his mom, Marian, was moving in to “help,” I had a bad feeling. But it wasn’t just Marian who arrived—it was her new boyfriend, Greg, a man from my past. “I can’t stand kids!” Greg muttered one night, revealing his true colors.
Marian quickly became the house’s charming hostess, while Greg and she treated me like their maid. My suspicions grew when I overheard Marian and Greg talking about a secret: “Kayla won’t let him throw us out,” Marian teased. I was trapped.
One day, Marian’s ex-husband, Thomas, showed up. He revealed that Marian had lied to Oliver about their past. I had helped his father escape her manipulative grip years ago. “I really did help your father,” I told Oliver. His world collapsed as the truth surfaced.
Oliver finally saw through Marian’s lies and manipulations. “You lied to me for years,” he said. After a tense confrontation, Marian and Greg were kicked out, and I was free. Later that night, I sat down to focus on my dreams, knowing I had reclaimed control.
