Deborah Marks, a single mom, selflessly cared for her terminally ill grandmother, Tessa, despite the challenges of her own life. Tessa had been a loving presence throughout Deborah’s childhood, unlike her indifferent mother, Martha. When Tessa asked to die at home, Deborah took unpaid leave to move in and nurse her. In contrast, Martha went on a three-month cruise and showed little interest in her mother’s condition.
Tessa’s final moments were peaceful, with Deborah by her side. Despite returning from her trip, Martha didn’t visit, citing her aversion to the “smell of sick people.” After Tessa’s passing, Martha focused on the estate, particularly the house and jewels. However, the will left the house to Martha but gifted Deborah only an old peach couch.
Though seemingly insignificant, the couch held a hidden treasure—a velvet bag filled with Tessa’s valuable jewels and a heartfelt letter. Tessa explained that she hid the jewels to prevent Martha from cheating Deborah. The letter ended with, “Remember I love you, my dearest, and remember me, and one day pass on my legacy to your own granddaughter.”
Deborah cherished the jewels, while Martha, driven by greed, fruitlessly searched the house, unaware that her mother’s true treasure had been passed on to the granddaughter who truly loved her.
