Prince Philip’s reported nickname for Meghan Markle has been revealed in a new book about his life. The late Prince allegedly called her “D.o.W.,” referring to the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson. This nickname was due to their similarities as American divorcees.
Markle’s presence has sparked drama within the royal family. The book also sheds light on Queen Elizabeth’s concerns about Markle’s wedding dress and Prince Philip’s health during the ceremony. Despite the controversy, Meghan and Prince Harry have pursued a life outside royal traditions in California with their children.
The book explores parallels between Prince Harry and his great-granduncle, Edward VIII, who abdicated for Simpson. Both men sought happiness outside royal duty, with Vickers noting Harry’s apparent sadness post-royalty. Simpson’s history exemplifies the scorn faced by divorcees in royal circles.
This revealing book not only exposes Prince Philip’s nickname for Markle but also delves into the complex dynamics of the royal family and its historical echoes.
