Nicholas left his 10-year-old daughter Paige with his mother Doris, claiming he needed a break with his new wife. But he never came back. His phone was disconnected, and his house was sold. Doris, now in her 60s, became a mother again, raising Paige alone with quiet strength.
Doris and Paige built a life without Nicholas. “We will manage, you and I,” Doris had promised, and she kept her word. Paige grew into a successful young woman, and Doris stood proudly by her side. They never heard a word from Nicholas until a decade later.
Nicholas finally returned, only to find Doris’s house empty. A neighbor told him Paige had married and moved Doris into a mansion. At their new home, Paige greeted him without emotion. “You abandoned me, father. You expected warmth?”
Nicholas asked for help, and despite everything, Paige gave him keys to the old house and $5,000. “Don’t come back,” she said firmly. His past choices left him with a bitter truth: love, once broken, rarely returns the same.
